"Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen

Three fun party particulars (in no particular order of importance):

  • This day in 1963 a frantic feather-brained stomper, "Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen, took flight.
  • The bizarro bird news was actually a kooky combination of two tunes, "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow" & "the Bird's the Word", both originally by a doo-wop/R&B act known as the Rivingtons.
  • The tune was used several times in our pop culture catalog, but John Waters' masterful placement of the song durin' the 'singing asshole' scene in Pink Flamingos is probably the most memorable (due to the fact once seen ya can never un-see it, baby...squares certainly beware!)
