And finally a new-to-me slab of ol' "Louie" in fine '60s garagepunk form...the Aliens' version on 45rpm with bonus flip of "Gloria"...get hip!
And if yer Faybo-friendly and wanna show yer fandom for all things "Louie Louie", don't sleep on this page!

the Feelies tell us just how it is, 1968 style.
an exotic rendition, heavy on Indian style psychedelics, from the Gurus.
Wilbert Harrison slaps his slow gut bucket soul stamp on the classic.

Otis Day is Still Doin' It to It, Baby!
Wowzers, I had no idea the cat called Otis Day (aka DeWayne Jessie) was still out & shoutin'...world famous from his appearance in Animal House, Otis Day & the Knights may have been a "fake" band but baby did they ever make the movie!...the footage below is from a recent live jive time at the Faith & Whiskey bar in the Windy City...& natch he's beltin' out my fave lil shama lama, "Louie Louie"!...ding dong, indeed...my day just got a bit brighter, baby.
dig the frat dude inquirin' the whereabouts of the keg!

Hey Hey Hey, It's International Louie Louie Day!
Look-out, I gotta shout, on account of today being one of my all-time fave holidays, International Louie Louie Day baby!...praise be to the late Richard Berry fer bestowin' upon us the hi-potent of lament that is Louie Louie...since this is my third time round celebratin' this terrific tune, let's pound-down with three samples of this wild sound...
First off, let's get a bit dirty with the rad Pacific Northwestern sound of the Nomads, a party pleaser of the craziest caliber...
...& to take this baby international, let's skip over to Japan and flip to Jackey Yoshikawa & his Blue Comets...another real-gone burner with sleazy sax and the beat to keep!
...and in the mood of keepin' things tropical let's take a trip with the Beach Boys' beautiful doo-bop version, a not so subtle attempt to re-create the original Berry & the Pharaohs style, like wild!
Fer more on the proper party etiquette of today's lunacy go dig LouieDay.org
...and if ya feel like hangin' around, go get down to last year's ILLD post, baby and be sure to dig the dah-dah-dah, da-dah all day!

Merry Int'l Louie Louie Day, baby!
Hip-hip-hooray, today's the day to celebrate thee LOU-EE LOU-AY!
Once more we bow at the alter of the creator, the revered Richard Berry, and pay homage to the saints of the strange & stupefying sound of dah-dah-dah, da-dah...
This me second time exaltin' the exquisite of Louie Louie, but me think of it oh constantly...so what'd ya say we party and play two Louies til we lose it?!?
And the perfect party pludge goes to one of my fav rave versions from Don & the Goodtimes and their complete killer!
Don of said band, it needs to be said, was the original keyboardist fer the fateful and famous Kingsmen version...Once Don struck out on his own the Goodtimes decided to destroy it just a short swallow of time later (gotta dig the speed of the '60s churnin' out singles, baby)...but I dig this version cuz it's filled to the gills with lots of go-go-go and the ominous feeling of a full-on fracas freakout!
And now fer a more modern make of sheer savvy silliness put on yer party panties and have a wild one with this group, who I believe to be known as Yopp
How can ya not go nuts to manic melodica action...and they got masks and the moves ya can't lose, too! ...That's what this non-sense is all about...frantic FUN!
Fer more skinny on how to commemorate this crazy day, dig these directions from LouieDay.org
Make sure ya pass thru the Louie Report today, too...they's the premier purveyors of peculiar pursuits in the Louie Louie universe...wild!
Oh yeah, dig up last year's I.L.L. Day post... and fan the fantastic Louie Louie over on Facebook, fiends ...dah-dah-dah indeed, baby!
keep on sailin' dem seas...

Lat-Teens do Likeable "Louie Louie"
Bored as a piece o' wood at work today brings be back to my eternal search fer "Louie Louie" phenomenons...skippin' & skimmin' thru all the internets I fell on this version by a latin soul group from the late '60s lovingly labeled as the Lat-Teens...nice! (lil' shing-a-ling anyone?)
I'm a bit stunned by this one, kids, as it neither falls into the real raucous nor ruinous categories...but it gave me a swig of "Louie" refreshment, so can't say this number don't hold water...it's a bit of the mild salsa, cha-cha and I have little info to back any of this up other than what wild wisdom is over at Funky 16 Corners (specifically Larry Grogan's 'Soul With An African Twist' article)...
This is a shock--one foot in a puddle, lightnin' strike shock, baby...I really dig Caribbean music and this "Louie" may be a new lynch-pin in my love and lunacy fer this song...I'm comin' to terms with my out and out swoon fer '60s ska (and most all other close musical cousins) and now that my eyes are open I can see thru the Bermuda Triangle of musical twists and turns of my life and, if I squint just right, what it was Richard Berry ("Louie Louie" originator, natch) saw & heard in that dah-dah-dah. da-dah. a long time ago...
"Louie dug the scene, didn't take long..."

Our National Anthem, Louie Louie
Trollin' fer new "Louie"s on a slow Saturday afternoon, I think I just fell in love with this groop, the Mighty Kegsmen...
...there's somethin' down right spazz-tastic about this version of our "national anthem" that gets me all statesmanlike fer this sleazy sound...as always, it's great to hear a modern, real frat band bash the jubilee out in full Revere & the Raiders style.
Wish I could share mo' info on this swell band, but I'm a dry well when it comes to that kinda water, baby. ...if yer hip do please get in touch, natch!

Happy Int'l Louie Louie Day!
Ah, a whole day to celebrate the insanity of an instant classic...I could ramble on like a teenage girl high on a crush, but instead I'm gonna direct those interested over to the incredible and infamous "Louie Report" (the official blog of the LouieLouie.net's Eric Predoehl, Louiest-with-the-mostest) for mo':
International Louie Louie Day - with a special video clip of the Buffalo Chips
Btw, the Buffalo Chips version seems a bit on the hokey side at first, but hang in there as all kindsa idiotic musicianship and fancy footwork go all apocalyptic by the end of this ride.
And fer the uninitiated (maybe there's few a y'all still livin' under a rock out there) I give ya a decent early Louie history lesson I found on youtube:
One last note...fer those itchin' to know why the hell April 11th was the chosen date as it has nothin' to do with Louie history proper...it does just so happen to be the birthday of the late great Richard Berry, original songwriter of this very holy hymn...so there...dig it.

Louie Louie time again with Paul Revere & the Raiders
In a bit of a weird place, kids...overwhelmed by life...girls got ya down...goin' outta yer head with big decisions...Stop all that frettin' & thinkin'!
Dig Paul and the gang go nuts-o all over the "Louie Louie"!
hey babe, I can't win fer losin'--I'm feelin' the Raiders' pain ya could say
It's been said about a billion times that Paul Revere & the Raiders got the long cold stiff one in the race to place "Louie Louie" at the top o' pop...so the Kingsmen got the gold, but the Raiders can't be rolled! Their version is as twisted and goofy as the Kingsmen, but the Raiders got a wink and a grin to go along with it...don't get me wrong...both songs are sleazy, I just bet the Raiders get down a little lower than the Kingsmen boys under the trash-limbo party pole, baby! (listen to "Crisco Party" if need to get hip to the Raiders wild side)...I could go on & on, but let the music blast instead
Dig more of Paul Revere & the Raiders before I go crazy!

LOUIE LOUIE!
...a '60s garage groop from rockin' Rochester, NY--baby they gots the sound down! These guys have a tune called "the Hump" fer shits sake, drive around in a Hearse and most importantly, they do Louie proud...
Found an article from USA Today of all rags 'bout the boys tearin' it up still
Buy their Best of from the Forevermore Records label to get more of their great garbage...
